Volocopter – a German aircraft maker – is adding drone into its product line, beside a current project to make its air taxis. Especially, the design of these drones will originate from the company’s air taxis like 2X and VoloCity, although it’s set to aim to the utility drone market. Named as VoloDrone, the massive drone is actually an 18-rotor electric aircraft but doesn’t carry passengers. Instead, it’ll be controlled by remote or be pre-planned when in autonomous mode to deliver heavy-weight cargo underneath. For instance, it could be an agricultural sprayer or a huge box.
Many specs of the VoloDrone are similar to its air taxi counterpart, VoloCity. In fact, two flying machines can carry not only the same maximum payload (200kg) but also the same working distance (40km) and top speed (110km/h). The size of VoloDrone also overpasses which a regular drone gets, reaching 9.2 meters of width and 2.3 meters of height. It’ll take operators about five minutes to recharge the drone by swapping its battery.
It’s not surprising of sorts when Volocopter decided to seize its utility drone segment, rather than stepping into severe competitions in the air taxi market. At present, most of the drone makers seem to focus on passenger aircraft only. As such, Boeing is the most prominent competitor that could become a potential rival of the Volocopter when it comes to cargo drones.
The day we can see a Volodrone floating in the sky remains unclear, but it's likely to happen "in the near future," according to the company. As for its sibling VoloCity, the two-seater aircraft has already been projected to enter service in as early as 2022.
Flying a drone is used to be prohibited in India but the rules have been changed. You can now start investing in drone cameras for breathtaking shots and awesome videos. Here’s drone camera price in India.
