Men, Don't Pose With A Cat If You Want To Have A Date

Posing with a cat around might make men look less desirable to the women compared to when they take pictures without the felines

Having a cat can bring many things to owners but obviously not a date, a new research shows.

What the study suggests is posing with a cat around might make men look less desirable to the women compared to when they take pictures without the felines.

The research took feedbacks from female participants and what they said are they were more likely to consider men taking pictures without cats as a potential partner for a short-term as well as long-term relationship.

Some other studies show women like men with pets more than those who don’t own any. However, this reaction refers to those with dogs only. This is why scientists were curious to see if men have cats as pet are as desirable as those with dogs.

What they did to find an answer is to conduct two surveys, one involves 680 participants and the other with 708 participants. All of them are female or heterosexual, American nationals aged between 18 years old and 24 years old.

The scientists used photos of two men, Male 1 and Male 2, each of them will pose for one picture with a cat and another without. The female participants were shown either pictures of Man 1 or Man 2.

When the second group saw photos of Man 1, they said he looked more extraverted alone. When they saw him with a cat, they said he looked neurotic, agreeable, and open with the feline.

The same happens to Male 2. The participants described him as conscientious when he posed alone and agreeable when he has a cat in the picture with him.

30% of the second group said they would like have a relationship with the man without a cat in his hands while only 19% said the same about the man holding a feline.

23% of the second group said they would like to build a relationship with the man in the picture without a cat and 19% said they like the man snuggling a cat.

Half of women in both groups said the men are datable whether they are with or without a cat.

When the participants were asked if they like cats, 19% of people in the two groups said they were a cat person, 48% of them said they like dogs, 24% responded they liked both and 10% said they liked neither.

Some previous studies suggest men who like dogs are considered more masculine and independent. On the other hand, those who love cats are usually labelled as being less masculine

Now, the scientists are wondering what would happen if men pose with dogs instead of cats? And are the breed and size of the animal impact women’s choice when they consider someone as a potential partner.
