In 2017, a man ordered an iPhone 7 Plus on the online shopping platform Snapdeal and surprisingly, what he received were just soaps. The latest news has revealed that he will be paid Rs 1 Lakh in compensation.
Parveen Kumar Sharma, 36 years old, is now working as an engineer in Mohali. On March 4 two years ago, he placed an order for an iPhone 7 Plus on the online shopping platform Snapdeal. The package was reportedly shipped on March 12. However, instead of his desired smartphone, he got up to 5 soap bars.
Sharma said he complained to the courier service Blue Dart but the company claimed they wouldn’t take responsibility due to the sealed package. After that, the 36-YO engineer sent 02 more emails to Snapdeal and didn’t get any response. The incident was updated by Indian Express. In addition, it seemed that his account was removed out of this shopping site.
Sharma decided to share his unhappy experience on the Mohali Consumer Forum, as well as sent an official complaint three months later, on June 19.
According to a Snapdeal spokesperson,
At that time, Pious Fashion, as a third-party seller, was the one to sell the iPhone 7 on Snapdeal. On July 30, the shopping site announced that there have been about 8000 sellers removed out of its platform in the recent 08 month due to fake products.
The Mohali Consumer Forum that followed the incident after receiving the complaint from Sharma has directly contacted with Snapdeal, Blue Dart, and Pious Fashion to require them to compensate Rs 1 Lakh for this engineer. Accordingly, he will get an Rs 81,799 refund and an internet of 8 percent per year (from March 04, 2017 to now). As such, the total of the litigation costs these platforms need to compensate is Rs 10,000.
