It will be great if we can watch the hottest basketball matches in the AR world. That is exactly what the National Basketball Association (NBA) aims at when developing an application that brings reality factors into the headset of Magic Leap One. With the app, users can now experience vivid game replays, highlights, as well as NBA games from many other virtual screens.
The Magic Leap AR app provides highlights and comparisons among the match’s statistics in the two modes including player vs player and team vs team. However, it’s not all because the app also enables users to adjust the display size of multiple screens, or change their locations.
To watch live games on the exciting app, users will have to become one of the subscribers of NBA Single-Game and NBA League Pass. For those who are not subscribers, they can still follow the content on-demand on the extra catalog of the app.
In 2018, at Recode’s Code Media conference, the NBA made an announcement on its partnership with a startup that specializes in developing augmented reality products. As the NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver stated that cooperation with the US startup Magic Leap would enhance interaction in traditional sports, as well as gain much more attention from younger viewers.
That does not mean older audiences are not interested in watching games on TVs. In fact, they often see a favorite match while following Twitter reactions or statistics on their own laptops or handsets. In addition, the AR app will collect watchers’ viewing habits on the “second screen” on only one platform.
