With a huge sum of money, the world’s richest man is more focused on how to spend the $130 billion than getting his fortune bigger.
At an award event hosted by Business Insider US Alyson Shontell and Axel Springer, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said that figuring out how to deploy that much money is tougher than it may seem.
The Amazon CEO and also founder earned around $107 million each day on average last year. "You're not going to spend it on a second dinner out," he said.
According to calculations of Business Insider, the value of $1 to an average person is just like $1,355 to a person with net worth of $2 billion. And the net worth of the Amazon CEO is now 65 times higher than that $2 billion already, so the $1’s value to an average person is the same as $88,000 to Jeff Bezos.
The only possible way he can utilize this fortune is to invest it in other types of business and he has to bet big, Bezos said. Each year, he liquidates an amount of 1$ billion in Amazon stock to invest on Blue Origin - his aerospace manufacturer and spaceflight services company.
"I am very lucky that I feel like I have a mission-driven purpose with Blue Origin that is, I think, incredibly important for civilization long term," he told Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer.
But Bezos didn’t only spend money on businesses. He also spent a portion of his money to a lot of entertainment and pleasures, including family trips. MacKenzie, his wife, planned a vacation to Norway where his family rested in an icehotel for around 3 days and also saw timber wolves and went dogsledding.
"It really was an incredible vacation, a pretty incredible holiday," he said. An average person would have to save money for months or years even to afford such a vacation like that. For Bezos, it is literally just pocket change.
And he is reportedly putting $12 million to renovate his mansion which is located in Washington, DC, and worths $23 million.
