Their main purposes are to increase the rank, reviews, and downloads for applications on app stores, especially new startups who want to impress investors and rise to the top trending. All the phones in a click farm system will download an app over and over again or make automatic reviews following pre-programmed commands. The same mechanism is used for increasing views, likes, and comments on videos as well as posts.

This service is currently illegal in China, but it has reached other countries like India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Apple has regularly updated its algorithm on the App Store to automatically spot click farm and remove fake reviews.
