According to 2020 HackerRank Developer Skills Report, whose results based on the response of 116,648 students and developers, Indian coders’ salary is just one-third of that of their counterparts in the U.S. Coders in India also earn less than those in Pakistan.
As stated by the report, the U.S developers earn an average of $109,167 a year while those work in India is paid only $38,229. Surprisingly, Pakistani developers make around $39,154, almost $1,000 more than their counterparts in India.
The average number for the world is $54,491 with coders in developed countries like the Netherlands, the US, Canada, and Australia earn more than those in Asia.
The salary of Indian coders appears lower than in the U.S but if that sum of money is put in the country’s context, that is not a bad pay at all. The $38,229 per year is the equivalent of Rs 27 lakh.
The HackerRank Developer Skills Report also provides some handy pieces of information for those working in this industry. As per the report, those who use Perl have a better chance of getting an above-average salary. These developers make an average of 54% more than those using other programming languages.
Another piece of interesting information is that formal qualifications do not seem to play an important role in determining how much developers make. When tech giants like IBM, Google, and Apple stop caring about qualifications, smaller firms tend to follow suit. The reports said that 32% of coders in these companies did not have bachelor's degrees.
According to the report, the most effective form of career development for developers is to learn new skills.
This might come as a surprise for you that 3% of the developers said they did not need a break from work. Plus, 61% of them listen to music when they do not work.
