Authorities are now concerned over the number of citizens who may have been exposed and infected since earlier, the patient was treated at a hospital in Basti. The guy had travelled to Mumbai; however, he didn’t reveal this information to the doctors.

On March 29, he was admitted to the BRD Medical College with a breathing problem. However, instead of being admitted the ward for COVID-19 patients, he was sent to the general ward.

As his condition worsened, the doctors transferred him to the ICU where he died one day later. His relatives had brought his body back to Basti.

Doctor OP Singh said that the man hid his travel history from the doctors. He only said that he was ill for a month and didn’t have a fever. If he or his family had said that he had come back from Mumbai, he would have been transferred to the COVID-19 ward.

The area where the guy lived has now been sealed off by the Basti district administration. All people who had contact with him, his relative and the paramedical staff and doctors at both hospitals, have been identified and are now under quarantine.

Patients and relative at the two hospitals who had close contact with him will be isolated and tested for the virus.
