India Surpassed UK With The Fourth-Highest COVID-19 Tally In The World

As of Thursday, India had a total of 2,97,205 COVID-19 cases, making it the fourth-worst hit country in the world since the outbreak of the disease.

Yesterday, India recorded 9,996 new COVID-19 cases, with which the tally in the country reached 2,86,579. This number comprises of 1,37,448 active cases and 1,41,029 recovered cases, as well as 8,102 deaths.
Maharashtra is the state with the highest tally, registering 3,607 news infected cases from Wednesday night to Thursday evening. This increase resulted in a total tally of 97,648. At the same time, Maharashtra recorded a death toll of 150 during the COVID-19 pandemic during this period, making the total number of death cases of 3,590.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu has the second-most COVID-19 cases, recording 38,716. Delhi has had 34,687 cases while Gujarat has had 22,067 cases.
Also Thursday, India surpassed the UK to become the fourth worst-hit country in the world by the coronavirus with 2,97,205 cases at the time. Just a few days ago, the country surpassed Spain and became the fifth-worst hit country. As of now, India has fewer cases than the US, Brazil, and Russia only.
The Delhi High Court has entered public interest litigation that seeks a lockdown until June 30 in the capital of India. The petitioner claimed in the plea that lifting the lockdown will help the virus spread with no restrictions. The petitioner also wrote that the government and the police aren’t prepared for this outbreak if the restrictions are lifted. The court will hear the plea in the coming days.
In terms of community transmission, ICMR’s Director General denied that India was undergoing any possibility of such events. He said:
“But we are definitely, India is not in community transmission and I would like to emphasise it. India is not in community transmission and that's only a term which is used but we have to continue with the strategy of testing, tracing, tracking, and quarantine and continue with the containment measures as we have found success until now.”
