A security company called Check Point recently made public that India was the world’s second-most attacked country by ransomware. The U.S occupies the first place.
According to a report by IANS, Check Point’s research reveals that the worldwide daily number of ransomware attacks has increased by 50% in the last three months.
The research also reveals that the number of attacks targeting the U.S has surged by 98% in the last three months, making it the worst victim of ransomware. The second place belongs to India, followed by Sri Lanka and Russia.
Here is what Lotem Finkelsteen, Head of Threat Intelligence for Check Point said about the cause of the surge:
Double Extortion and some other types of attacks have surged and so have the number of people willing to pay the ransom, as pointed out by the research.
Another survey revealed a surprising truth more than half of the hackers (68%) carried out attacks because they were challenged. 51% of them hack to learn new tricks and tips and 53% launch cyber-attacks to earn a profit.
Another report from Acronis - a company specialized in cyber protection, claimed that companies in India reported more hacking attempts targeting them and more than half of them (56%) reported an increase in IT costs in the last few months.
