India Ranks At The Bottom Of The Chart For Mobile Internet Speed, Even Lower Than Pakistan And Sri Lanka

With 12.07Mbps average download speed, India fell two positions on global ranking for mobile Internet compared to August’s results

India ranks 131st and 70th on Ookla's Speedtest Global Index for mobile Internet and fixed broadband speed respectively.

With 12.07Mbps average download speed, the country fell two positions compared to August’s mobile Internet ranking. Fixed broadband speed saw an improvement in September. Its ranking rising two spots to number 70 with an average speed of 46.47Mbps.

These two departments are well below the world’s average. India even ranks lower than neighboring countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Pakistan.

Mobile Internet Speed

According to the Ookla Speedtest Global Index, In September 2020, the average download speed in India is 12.07Mbps – much lower than the world’s average of 35.26Mbps.

The country now ranks 131st out of 138 countries, dropping two places compared to August. The country’s upload speed is 4.31Mbps with a latency of 52ms. To put things into perspective, the world’s average latency and speed are 42ms and 11.22Mbps.

India ranks lower than many of its neighboring countries. China’s ranking is much higher. The East Asian country occupies second place with an average download speed of 113.35Mbps.

With a speed of 19.95Mbps, Sri Lanka is placed at the 102nd spot. Pakistan ranks 116th, achieving a speed of 17.13Mbps. Occupying the 117th spot is Nepal with a download speed of 17.12Mbps. Bangladesh is two places lower than India with 10.76Mbps.

Fixed Broadband Internet Speed

When it comes to fixed broadband, India ranks 70th out of 175 countries, higher than the majority of the surrounding countries, with download standing at 46.47Mbps.

China takes 20th place with an average speed of 138.66Mbps. Number 98th belongs to Sri Lanka with 29.85Mbps. Nepal, with 22.36Mbps, occupies 113th place. Pakistan takes the 159th spot with a speed of 10.10Mbps.

The global figures are 85.73Mbps for download speed, 45.74Mbps for upload speed, and 21ms of latency.
