India Takes The Credit For Making Our Earth A Greener Place, According To NASA

India is now the world record holder for having 50 million trees planted in just 24 hours by 800,000 Indians

According to NASA, our planet is a greener place than it was two decades ago and all the credit for this positive change goes to India and China.

Some may think that the two countries are overexploiting their natural resources for economic gains but in reality, they are also responsible for most of the positive change to our environment in the last 20 years.

As the two most populous countries on the planet, India and China have implemented various tree-planting programs as well as developing their agriculture technology.

When NASA first spotted the change in the scale of trees, they were unsure where the change came from. But after analyzing satellite images, they found out that trees mostly locate in India and China.

In the below map, the green portion represents an increase in vegetation while the brown one is where greening is decreasing. As you can see, most green patches locate in India and China.

If you need an update on how other countries are doing, you can look at the chart below. However, keep in mind that the chart show changes in greening and it does not tell you where these countries start. For example, nations that have successfully keep their forests intact for decades will not do well on the chart while those suffering from severe deforestation will have more room to improve.

Back in the 70s and 80s, both India and China had a high level of deforestation to make way for urban development. However, as severe consequences started to force the two countries to think of solutions, they have shown that they are also very resourceful in fixing problems.

The change in the world that India and China make possible is warmly welcomed especially when climate change continues to threaten the existence of humanity.
