According to the Global Times, a news outlet run by the Chinese government, Beijing has asked New Delhi for help with cybersecurity, honoring India’s commitment made in 2019.
The report revealed that 260 Security Technology recently found out about a cyberattack of APT (advanced persistent threat) with Indian hackers are the mastermind. What they did is to exploit the fear over the Coronavirus to lure Chinese users into traps.
However, this threat comes from everywhere, not just India. China is now under constant threat of cybersecurity from countries in South Asia, East Asia, the U.S, and Europe.
A group goes under the name BITTER, which the Chinese government suspects have Indian origin, has repeatedly launched attacks targeting the East Asian country’s state agencies, like the Ministry of Foreign Affair. The assaults have been going on since March 2019.
Back in 2016, the group’s main target was disclosed. What BITTER is interested the most in is the nuclear industry, the arms industry, and the government. The attacks aimed at China are among the deadliest with the use of one of the most dangerous in the world.
The report also warns that since the attacks have managed to gain access to some sites and information of high sensitivity, they can leave disastrous consequences. Some of the worst-case scenarios are medical equipment and advancement being stolen and used for malicious purposes, as well as creating chaos by magnifying the fear over the Coronavirus.
In order to safely share information and assist other nations in the fight against the Coronavirus infection, China needs secure cybersecurity, which requires help from other countries, including India.
The report also said that if China’s medical system is compromised, not just the country but the entire world will be affected.
