A School Sends Students Home Because Of Trickbot Malware

Just recently a school in Ohia district had to send their students and some of their employees home because of an infection of malware which caused big issues on the IT infrastructure of the school. But not like the majority of experts would have thought, that infection of malware wasn't an attack of ransomware but was a kind of banking trojan. For more information, Trickbot is the name of the malware that attacked and made the whole IT systems of the school collapse.

They weren't able to ensure that the whole operating systems will be function by the next Morning that why they canceled school on Monday. According to Coventry High School, the IT system of the school was infected from last week. But the school only found out the issue last Friday. However, their IT staffs weren't able to recover the whole system on the weekend. Lisa Blough, Coventry Local School District Superintendent said they weren't able to ensure that the whole operating systems will be completely functioned by Monday, so that's why they had to cancel the class.

In addition, Lisa Blough said the school did not think that any of over 2000 pupils did purposely infect this malware.

Trickbot

After the incident, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been helping out with the recovery efforts as well as counseling for the school district.

Earlier this year, the Department of Homeland Security has also sent out warnings about a serious increase of Trickbot attacks. Trickbot was stated as a trojan of banking which designed for stealing banking portals' credentials. But then it has shifted tactics to be malware for multiple purposes since 2016.

At the moment, it is still unclear that what happened on the IT network on the School District. But from Blough, we know that it was very serious. A spokesperson from the school has also said that the classes have resumed to normal activities on Tuesday.
