If you think not having future updates from Google and no access to App Store is bad enough, this news will make the situation seems a lot worse.

Huawei is no longer a member of the SD Associations, a non-profit organization that sets memory card standards. This means the Chinese tech giant cannot add SD or microSD card support to its devices anymore.

Huawei cannot add SD or microSD card support to its devices anymore

This news was reported by 9to5Google and Android Authority also confirmed that this removal was due to the ban President Donald Trump imposed. However, existing devices will still have support for SD and microSD cards. This restriction will only be for future devices under the brand name Huawei.

This news might sound devastating for the Chinese tech giant but it is not exactly like that. Huawei has been replacing SD cards with its own NanoMemory format in the last few years.

Ever since the ban came to effect, several firms have announced that they would not trade with Huawei anymore. The first and arguably most noticeable is Google when it cut the company off any future update for Android and its apps. Then, ARM staff received an order to stop any business transactions with the Chinese phone maker. After that, Infineon, a Germany-based chipmaker stopped all shipments for Huawei. Microsoft also takes down its laptops from its online store. Intel and Qualcomm also did the same thing.

According to Nikkei Asian Review, another non-profit organization preparing for another removal aiming at Huawei is Wi-Fi Alliance. And as the name indicates, it standardizes Wi-Fi all over the world. However, Huawei’s membership is just temporarily restricted as a result of the ban from the US.

Huawei also reportedly left JEDEC voluntarily.
