French Minister Contracted COVID-19 After Parliament Meeting

On Monday, a French government official said that the culture minister of France was the latest case of politician getting COVID-19. Before the minister, multiple law makers have been found to be infected with the virus.

According to Olivier Veran, France’s health minister on BFM Television, the culture minister was in a stable condition and was resting at home. So far, France has seen five of its parliamentarians tested positive for COVID-19. It is believed that all of the law-makers get the virus from one of the staff of the National Assembly cafeteria.

Franck Riester, France’s culture minister may have contracted the virus from one of the five parliamentarians, according to a source in the culture ministry. They also said that the minister met with President Emmanuel Macron a few days before.

Augustin de Romanet, chief executive officer of Groupe ADP, has also tested positive for COVID-19. He is now working from home.

Health minister Veran said no government official has been tested positive for the virus besides the confirmed cases. He also assured that cabinet colleagues adhered to the recommendations they had advised the public to follow.

Veran shared that in meetings, no one shook hand anymore as a precaution against COVID-19.

In India, the total number of Coronavirus cases is now 43 with a three-year-old patient found out to carry the virus after returning to India from Italy. Six citizens of Uttar Pradesh have also tested positive. All of them may have contracted the virus from a businessman. Five of the patients are the businessman’s family members and the other case is a factory worker who had met the man.
