“Flying” Taxi Was Detained By Police For Speeding During Test

SeaBubbles, a startup from France, recently took its flying taxi which runs using hydrofoils for a test on the River Seine in Paris. The craft was reportedly pulled over by the police for exceeding the speed limit.

Anders Bringdal, SeaBubbles co-founder said in an interview with The Independent said, that the company's vehicle was allowed to go at a speed of 30km/h. But the allowed speed on the river was only 12km/h. So the flying taxi was stopped for a paperwork check.

The goal of Seabubbles is to launch the Bubble-the name of the taxi in cities across France, Holland, and the United States in 2020.

After the service is launch, users can use an app to order a ride. But unlike Uber or Lyft with which you can summon a vehicle to where you are at. Riders will then come to a dock to meet the vehicle. The dock is equipped with wind turbines, underwater generators, and solar titles to produce energy for battery charging.

SeaBubbles claimed that the flying taxi could be an environmentally-friendly alternative to cars running on fossil fuel since they produce no noise, waves, or CO2 emission. Also, the startup states that its service will be at the price of a regular cab, taking customers to where they want to go at “car speed” and have no negative on the infrastructure of the city.

Moreover, when the service is finally launched, some of the traffic that is clogging the streets could be moved to waterways, improving the citizens’ urban transportation experience.
