Recently, Facebook has decided to pay a total of $52 million (approximately Rs. 375 Crore) as compensation for its content moderators, who have been negatively affected by a slew of filthy and cruel stuff on this social media platform. Being stuck in stressful conditions, these people are required to view such incredibly horrific things every day.

The payment actually originated from a 2018 lawsuit when a number of former moderators at Facebook accused the tech giant of not providing a safe workplace and putting their mental health at risk when they had to face severe psychological harm.
In an interview with The Verge, some of them claimed that they’d been exposed to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after a long time of witnessing distressing photos and videos such as violent murders, terrorism, animal cruelty, or sexual abuse, etc…
According to a settlement filed to the court, each individual will receive at least $1,000 while it can be adjusted to up to $50,000 based on particular circumstances. This insurance-like program will cover more than 11,000 Facebook moderators across American states, including both former and current employees.

Not only will Facebook pay for their work but the company is also planning to change its moderation processes other than letting moderators struggle with horrific things themselves.
In order to partly mitigate the psychological impact, mental health professionals are ready to help Facebook moderators through both individual and group therapy sessions, and videos will be converted into black-and-white for a safer environment.
