Today, Elon Musk will reveal more about Neuralink, his brain-machine interface company. His Wednesday tweet announced a live webcast of the newest Neuralink device that’s under development, which will go live at 3 PM PT Friday (3:30 AM Saturday in India).
According to the Tesla CEO, the webcast will reveal V2, the 2nd version of the machine that will help directly insert implants into the brain. Musk added that there’s still a long way to go before the company can perfect the process of inserting the brain chip, but it can get close to that in the next few years.
Neuralink carries the mission to help with treating brain disorders, preserving, and enhancing human brains. Eventually, the company aims at merging humans with AI through a chip inserted into their brains.
Musk said that those who have the chip inserted into their brains would undergo a process similar to a laser eye surgery called Lasik. Previously, he confirmed that the implanted chip could control hormone levels, possibly helping the subject escape anxiety and other conditions.
Since summer 2019, Neuralink has not revealed much about its plans and progress, but last month, Musk said that the brain chip technology of the company would make it possible for people to stream music into the brain with ease.
However, just like other new technologies, there are questions and concerns over privacy coming with the use of a brain chip. We will have to wait and see how that turns out.
