In an approval request, SpaceX has reportedly looked for the launch of 30,000 Starlink internet satellites. The current constellation still makes people cast doubt on not only quantity but also quality while they may have to wait as early as mid-2020 to approach the service. Needless to say, none but SpaceX’s founder Elon Musk is the first one that tried the pilot as he has posted a special tweet just recently, using a network in collaboration with in-orbit Starlink satellites.
The simple tweet made a lot of sense. Of course, this tweet seems to stand for saying that the satellite constellation is now ready for use. Moreover, it appeared to be a meaningful cheer to Musk himself as well as his team and enthusiasts. As promoted by SpaceX, the new service will eventually offer not only fast but cheap internet access in any part of the globe, even a large number of areas are underserved.
At the first stage, the mega-constellation had been projected to include 12,000 satellites, but SpaceX later filed approval for the launch of 30,000 additional satellites. In May 2018, the company initially deployed 60 Starlink satellites as part of the testing phase before rolling out more.
In the sidelines, the astronomer Alex Parker predicted that if that all of the satellites in that mega-constellation take over the sky, they will cause light pollution. Once this happens, there’ll be so many other fatal issues that we would never be able to think of.
