Elon Musk and his girlfriend Grimes welcomed their first child together on May 5. And as this is big news for fans of the man who founded Tesla and SpaceX, Musk has been keeping them informed about the baby boy and his mother.
What baffled netizens the most is the name the couple chose for their son - X Æ A-12 Musk, an unique name indeed.
At first people thought this was a joke until they found out how the name is pronounced. A Twitter user came up with a convincing explanation and claimed that people should say the name like this - X Ash Archangel.
The user also elaborated on the origin of X Æ A-12 Musk and his tweet was liked by Elon Musk himself, suggesting that his explanation might be correct. The highlight of the tweet is the suggestion that the letter Æ might come from the Scandinavian alphabet and its pronunciation is Ash.
About the A-12 part, people guessed it might refer to the Lockheed A-12, an aircraft of CIA, which has the codename Archangel. So put everything together, what we have is X Ash Archangel.
Many Twitter users noticed that Musk’s son was born on Star Wars Day, May 4 and they are super excited about that.
Musk and Grimes have been in a relationship since 2018 and the Canadian singer first revealed her pregnancy in January when she posed naked with an image of a foetus visible on her stomach.
Later, Grimes took to Twitter to explain the name herself.
X is the usual representative of an unknown variable in math, said Grimes. Æ is her elven spelling for AI, which could either mean Artificial Intelligence or love.
And with A-12, Grimes said it referred to the SR-17, the favorite aircraft of both Grimes and Elon Musk. This part is also inspired by Archangel, the mother’s most-liked song.
