It seems like students at a middle school in Flinch are receiving their early holiday presents from Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX and co-founder of Paypal and Tesla Motors.
The foundation of the technology billionaire will donate $423,000 to buy Chromebooks for all students in seventh and eighth grade at the Flint Community Schools district. On Wednesday night, at a meeting of the school board, the announcement on the donation was made.
It is still unclear the total number of students that will receive this present. There are over 4,500 students in different grades from kindergarten to 12th grade at the school. For students who are the recipients of the donation, besides using the laptops in class, they will be allowed to take them home and use them.
For a while, SpaceX’s founder has been focusing on the area of Flint. In July, he tweeted a post on Twitter vowing to provide every house in this city with clean water. This was due to controversy about clean water in the area. While the government has stated that Flint’s drinking water resource is safe for its citizens to drink, many people have opposed to this, claiming that it is the opposite to what the government has said.
Back in October, 12 schools in Flints have been provided with an ultraviolet filtration system through Musk’s donation of $500,000. These systems are said to be installed before January 2019.
The donations were made after such a rocky year for Musk, who has sparked controversy for his Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) mocking on Twitter as well as his marijuana smoking incident.
