The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has deployed a wide range of digital tools to prevent crimes of varying degrees. AI-powered cameras have been used to detect traffic offenders as well as subway criminals while assisting police in tracking and arresting hundreds of suspects each year.
But recently, Dubai Police have achieved an even bigger breakthrough when user “brain fingerprint” tech to look for criminal evidence in the memory and arrest a murder suspect.
After more than one year of research, this technology was applied for the first time to help the authorities investigate a murder case in a warehouse.
They showed the staff working in the warehouse (the suspects of the case) the photos taken from the incident and tracked the changes in the individual brainwaves as they saw each photo of the crime scene and the weapons used in the murder.
A photo of the tool used in the case strongly affected the mind of the suspect, helping criminal psychology experts find him. The suspect later confessed his guilt and revealed how the murder had been planned and executed.
Called brain fingerprinting technology, it makes use of psychology to penetrate into the experience and events kept inside a person’s memory. When looking at the photos of the incidents, people who were at the crime scene will experience changes in their brainwaves that can be used as evidence.
Increased use of smart tools to investigate murders and maintain security is part of Dubai’s plan to work towards using technology to prevent crime even before it happens.
The city authority will start using AI to analyze data and predict crimes in 2031. The UAE has also launched the Galcon Eye 2 satellite to monitor the country’s border and assist the military in intelligence operations.
