China has already been known for using drones in different ways. As Coronavirus is spreading like wildfire in the country, it is understandable that drones are being essential tools to combat the new virus.
Different places around the country are using drones for tasks such as spraying disinfectant, facilitating construction, and dispersing public gatherings.
Around the country, local governments, companies, and villagers are equipping crop-spraying drones with disinfectant gears. Footage online showed a villager in Shandong province who used his drone to spray disinfectant around his 16,000-square-meter village.
XAG, an agriculture technology company in China, also claimed that it had dispatched a fleet of drones for disinfectant spraying around a local community in the province of Shandong. According to the company, it took no more than four hours to cover 300,000 square meters.
For drones that are big enough to carry canisters of disinfectants, they are equipped with megaphones to disperse public gatherings and remind people to put on their face masks.
To prevent the virus from spreading, authorities are using drones to monitor activities like waste disposal and traffic. In Shanghai, drones are used at inter-city roads to monitor when officials check the temperatures of the travelers. Meanwhile, in Zhongshan, drones are deployed to oversee medical waste disposal.
In Jiangxi, a community manager also used drones that have a thermometer to check residents’ temperature.
Lighting drones proved to be handy in Wuhan which is the center of the outbreak. As the number of infected people keeps rising every day, the authorities have built two large temporary hospitals. Since there are no construction light and street lamps at the site, to provide workers with enough lighting to work, six lighting drones have been used, flying 50 meters above the site.
Each drone can light up 6,000 square meters. On one single charge, it can last up for 10 hours. They are said to be 80 percent more effective than traditional street lamps.
