Earlier, Disney+ was supposed to make its debut in India on March 29th, alongside the latest season of Indian Premier League (IPL) on Hotstar. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic postponing the IPL, the launch of the service was delayed as well. At that time, there was no information regarding the new launch day. But it has been confirmed that Disney+ Hotstar will officially be launched in India on April 3rd.
If you don’t know, Disney+ will make its debut via Hotstar, one of the country’s most popular streaming services besides Netflix and Amazon Prime. And with this launch, Hotstar will be rebranded to Disney+ Hotstar.
But you must be asking why the company decides to launch the service only four days after the original launch date? The answer is that the company has rethought its strategy amid the COVID-19 outbreak, according to The Walt Disney Company APAC’s President and Star and Disney India’s Chairman, Uday Shankar.
Disney+ is ready to hit the market this week since there isn’t any fresh content being launched amid the outbreak, which is a great opportunity for Disney+ Hotstar to catch some attention.
Users will meet Disney+ Hotstar with a brand new design both in its app and website. Along with a redesign, the new service will bring slightly more expensive subscription plans.
If you are already a Hotstar user, you know that the streaming platform has two annual subscription plans to choose from, Hotstar VIP which costs Rs 365 and Hotstar Premium which costs Rs 999. With this new service, the same model will be maintained but with an increase in the tariffs.
Users can choose between Disney+ Hotstar VIP costing Rs 399 and Disney+ Hotstar Premium costing Rs 1,499. Disney+ Hotstar VIP allows you to access the library of Marvel Cinematic Universe, live sports, recent Bollywood movies, and Hotstar Originals.
Meanwhile, with Disney+ Hotstar Premium, you can watch Disney+ originals which include Lady and the Tramp, High School Musical, and The Mandalorian. This subscription also includes American shows from Showtime, HBO, and Fox, etc.
