Do you still remember the engagement between a French woman with her 3D printed robot or a wedding ceremony of a Chinese engineer with his robot wife?
In a fascinating story from the New York Times, it is reported that there is a group of people who identify themselves as “digisexuals.” This is a term describing people who instead of humans with biological mind and flesh bodies, they feel attracted to artificial intelligence and robots.
As reported by the Times, academics have started to deal with the digisexuality concept. Back in 2017, a paper on this topic from researchers of the University of Wisconsin-Stout and the University of Manitoba was published. The research focused on the rising trend of this concept and the technologies behind it including automated sex toys and thousands-of-dollars robotic sex dolls.
In his interview, professor Markie Twist of the University of Wisconsin-Stout, who is the co-author of the published paper, said:
The Times also reported disturbing situations in which people attacking robots brutally. Along with them is an in-depth analysis of digisexuality being contextualized in a range of behaviors that have always been considered as normal.
