The Indian app named Froggipedia has beaten many other great apps to become the best app for iPad in 2018 a few days ago. What makes the world surprised is that the app was developed less than a year ago.
The first time Froggipedia has officially come to the public was in March 2018. The tech giant Apple mentioned it as a particular app in the augmented reality (AR) event that aimed to the education. Running on Apple’s proprietary ARKit platform, the app is the initiative of Designmate. The company in Mumbai specializes in researching and developing interactive learning software.
As per the ‘iPad App of the Year’ Froggipedia, it has been working for 30 years, and the most impressive thing in this app may be those who have contributed to its success. According to the app’s founder and CEO, Captain KJ Brar, more than 270 disabled people are working on Froggipedia. They include developers and workers. The number occupies over 70% of all the workforce of the company.
The information was first revealed in the show Satyamev Jayate hosted by Aamir Khan three years ago, in 2015. For those who want to reconfirm the news, it was on the sixth episode.
From 2010 to now, Designmate under the leadership of Brar has developed applications for the iOS platform. Not long after, the company realized the promising outlook of ARKit in the educational field. It will facilitate teachers to transfer knowledge to students in modern classrooms.
In fact, eight developers of Designmate worked with each other to develop the app Froggipedia as a part of Apple’s app accelerator program in more than a fortnight. This helped the AR app receive a lot of professional support from Apple global experts as well as the review from the US headquarters.
With the app, students can anatomize frogs and watch the construction of their entire bodies from different angles. When combining with the highly sensitive Apple Pencil, students can also study each tissue layer to get better awareness. Besides, Froggipedia provides 3D images of frogs according to each period in their life cycle.
Although the Indian app is developed by the Indian researchers, it is, without doubt, more suitable for the US classrooms equipped with iPads. Schools in India will probably wait so long to have enough facilities to bring the app to their students.
