After getting the approval of the Centre, around 30 crores of Indians will be vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine during the first phase.
In its vaccination guideline, the Centre said the COVID-19 vaccine will be given to healthcare and frontline workers, as well as citizens above 50 first. People who don’t fall into one of these three groups will receive the vaccine later according to how the pandemic evolves. The remaining of the population will get vaccinated based on the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine.
As per the Centre’s guideline, people over 50 years old would be identified according to the latest electoral roll for legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha election.
There is no need for on-the-spot registration when people arrive at the vaccination sites as they are required to pre-register in the COVID Vaccine Intelligence Network or Co-Win.
How To Register
Those who are not healthcare of frontline workers will be able to register to receive the COVID-19 vaccine on the Co-Win platform. The app can be found on both Apple App Store and Google Play Store. However, please bear in mind that the app hasn’t been launched yet.
According to the Centre’s guideline, the registration process requires 12 photo-identity documents including a driving license, Voter ID, passport, pension document, and Aadhar card.
After they have registered online, the beneficiary will get an SMS to the mobile number they registered with information on the vaccination site and date.
How The App Works
As stated by a report on Gizbot, Rajesh Bhushan - Union health secretary said the app features five modules, including report module, registration module, beneficiary acknowledgment module, vaccination module, and administrator module.
The last module will mostly be used by administrators to make sessions and to notify managers and respective vaccinators. On the other hand, the vaccination module is for beneficiary detail verification and to keep up-to-date with vaccination status. After users get vaccinated, the beneficiary acknowledgment module will provide them with certificates based on QR-code, the module also sends SMS to the beneficiaries.
The report module will make reports covering information like the number of people who have attended vaccine sessions, the number of sessions that have been conducted, and the number of people who have dropped out.
Bhushan said the app will also be responsible for sending data of the cold storage’s temperature to main servers in real-time. However, this isn’t a new feature but merely an extension of eVIN (Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network) introduced in September.
'Vaccination Is Voluntary'
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, vaccination against COVID-19 is totally optional. However, the ministry advises citizens to take all the necessary doses to protect themselves and to curb the spread of the Corona virus.
It’s also advisable for citizens to attend the full schedule of vaccination regardless of their past history with COVID-19 infection to make sure their bodies are able to build a healthy immune response to the virus.
According to the ministry, those who would like to get vaccinated are required to register first. Only after registration that the information on the time and vaccination site will be shared with them via SMS.
After the registering process is completed, citizens will get SMS to the phone number they provide with information on the time and venue. After the administration of all doses of vaccine is made, beneficiaries will receive a QR-based certification to their mobile number.
The ministry advised beneficiaries to rest for at least 30 minutes at the vaccination center after getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
If beneficiaries feel uneasiness or discomfort after taking the vaccine, they should contact ANM/ASHA/health authorities to get proper support. Even when they have been vaccinated, citizens should maintain preventative measures like wearing masks, keeping distance, and wash their hands regularly.
