Apple’s Face ID can be more secure and convenient than the traditional fingerprint sensor but it is not perfect. iPhone users in China are having trouble using the Face ID feature on their iPhones after the spread of the Coronavirus.
To ensure safety and security, Face ID can’t work when a user wears a face mask. Meanwhile, at the moment, almost every Chinese citizen need is required to put on a face mask when they go out on the streets or any public places that are normally full of people.

In this situation, people are having a reminiscent of the old Touch ID because it is more effective than the Face ID during a time like this. And that is probably Apple is having plans on bringing back the old Touch ID instead of terminating it for real.
According to a recent report, it might be possible that Apple will integrate Touch ID under the OLED screen of the upcoming iPhones. Besides, Ming-Chi Kuo has also predicted that Touch ID might also appear on the LCD screen of the iPhone in 2021. Instead of being integrated into the Home button, it will be integrated with the power button on the right side of the phone.
Kuo said that this would be the most effective method to help Apple mitigate all the limitations of the Face ID, providing people with more choices.
Integrating a fingerprint sensor to the home button is not something new. A lot of smartphones have already had this like the Sony Xperia Z5 launched back in 2015.
Kuo said that the problem with putting the fingerprint sensor under the smartphone’s screen was that it would be expensive and only work with OLED. Therefore, with iPhones that have an LCD screen, integrating Touch ID into the power button would be a smarter and more effective move.
