Just last week at the roundtable of UN-Habitat, all the attendees have has the chance to catch a glimpse of an amazing engineering marvel. They have seen the concept design for a floating city, the first one of its kind unlike any design before it. This floating island was made to withstand climate change's fallout and many other factors.
A marvel of engineering

Oceanix also is the name of the company which made this concept design. It's in partnership with MIT Center for Ocean Engineering to work on creating a floating housing structure. According to the chief architect Bjarke Ingels of the project, they have shown off the core design of a floating city. This city structure will be able to host up to 10,000 people.
They started this project as a way to solve the housing shortage, rising sea levels, and various natural disasters. Their design of a floating island will be able to withstand much severe weather phenomenons. This structure will also allow its residents to produce their own food and power. It provides the equipment needed for waste disposal and water recycling as well.
Oceanix City
This floating island has the name of Oceanix City. This floating city is a collection of many smaller hexagonal islands bundled with mid-level buildings on them. The whole structure of Oceanix City will be made out of sustainable materials. Each individual island will have the capacity of hosting up to 300 residents. The creator makes each landmass with the hexagonal because he believes that it is the most space-efficient. So they want to connect many hexagons together to create a city of up to 10,000 people. Ingels thinks that is it the appropriate number of people for a community to reach full autonomy.

They also want to make Oceanix be a modular city. They want to it that way so future engineers could change and disassemble the island to move it elsewhere. While in the static location, Oceanix City will anchor itself to the ocean floor to improve its ability to handle hurricanes and tsunamis.
They intend for the City to be totally environmentally-friendly. It won't have any gasoline cars and even ant garbage trucks. Instead, the residents of the island will use electric vehicles to move around and a system of pneumatic tubes to dispose of their garbage.
