6 months ago, officials in Roubaix, France recently paid Rs 80 Lakh for the installation of 187 solar panels to provide the local library with green electricity. But unfortunately, they forgot one important thing: connecting these panels to the electrical grid of the building.
And this basically means that, for six months straight, the panels didn’t get to do their role and did not produce any of the power that was consumed by the local library.
These solar panels were supposed to generate around a quarter of the electricity that the city library needs. While connecting a wind turbine that is designed to also generate clean energy, everyone realized that the panels didn’t work all this time.
The city’s deputy mayor, Alexandre Garcin did not explain any reason behind the incident. Somehow, no one noticed that after installing the solar panels, the electricity bill of the library hadn’t gone down one bit.
As we are literally going to use up our fossil fuel sources and pollute the planet along the way, solar power is the solution. India is also among the countries that are operating solar panels to generate electricity.
A few years ago, the Indian government set a goal to use solar power to generate a certain percentage of the energy requirements of the country.
Now, according to DST or the Department of Science and Technology, the country has hit the milestone 4 years ahead of schedule.
The move belongs to an initiative that aims to reduce climate change’s effects by achieving 20GW of solar power by 2022. According to Dr. Akhilesh Gupta, DST Climate Change Program’s Adviser and Head, the target has already been reached back in January 2018.
