Out of the top 10 cities, six are from China, which doesn’t come as a surprise. Remarkably, while Beijing is ranked 10th on the list, compared to other cities, the capital of China has the highest number of CCTV cameras installed with more than 1.1 million cameras.

The report also emphasizes that a city with the densest CCTV network does not necessarily mean it has the lowest crime index, and vice versa. It compared Xiamen, a Chinese city, to London of the UK. Both cities has about 400 CCTVs installed. However, in terms of the crime index, the capital of England is at a higher scale.

The report points out that while people feel safer with CCTVs, they are actually used more in solving crimes rather than preventing them from happening.
