A cancer VR (virtual reality) 3D model has been developed by scientists from Cambridge, which offers detailed information about the tumor cells from the different angles for users. This invention opens the door for getting better cancer knowledge and new treatment development for cancer in the future.

The VR 3D model’s users can conduct a detailed study on a sample of a tumor which is taken from a patient with cancer from different angles and each mapped private cell.

Patients with cancer can have more opportunities to treat the disease

According to the Director of CRUK (the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute), Greg Hannon in the interview with the BBC, it is the first time that people have been able to examine the tumor geography in this detail level, which can help the early detection of cancer.

It is known that these scientists conducted the study on a 1-mm breast cancer tissue biopsy cubed piece consisting of about 100,000 cells. They had it cut into extremely thin slices before staining them with signs that demonstrate their DNA characteristics and molecular make-up.

The use of VR (virtual reality) helped to rebuild a tumor, allowing many users in different places worldwide to have an examination of it.

In addition, the virtual reality headsets were able to make the sample of human tissue with the pinhead-size look larger to be clearly seen in several meter distance.
