Delhi has had the first electric vehicle charging station by BSES in its government’s attempt to boost the EV adoption in the capital.

The draft sustainability roadmap of Delhi stated to set up 150 charging points for electric vehicles totally in Delhi by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited. The charging points are targeted at promoting a greener transport mode in Delhi. Planning to install 150 points, the government intends to boost the electric vehicles adoption, which will eliminate the disadvantage due to the lack of necessary infrastructure.

In addition to being more environmentally-friendly, EV users will also save more money on their vehicles. According to the Delhi’s government, the charging’s approximate cost comprising of overheads (equipment recovery cost, parking charges, etc) and electricity cost (according to DERC tariff) will be in the range of Rs.160 - Rs.200 for a charging slot. With a range of 200 kilometres on average, an EV user is expected to spend only 1 Rs each kilometer travelled.

Those who want to power their EVs at new charging stations will need to book the time for charging in advance first and then pay for it online via “ElectreeFi” mobile application. The application allows users to find the nearest points for charging and keep a slot in advance for them.

The EV charging point is in an attempt by the government to boost the EV adoption in Delhi. Recently, the government announced a number of electric scooters to be applied at metro stations for metro commuters’ zero-emission last-mile connectivity. Additionally, the government also aims to encourage shippers in Delhi to switch to use EVs through its incentive program.
