Victoria Police (Australia) have bought a Tesla Model X to test the electrification of their patrol fleet. They believe this move will help them to bring police vehicles to a new level in the recent century.
Accordingly, Victoria Police will collaborate with many experts from Tesla including engineers, manufacturers of emergency equipment, as well as the contractor that focuses on installing vehicles. All of these Tesla employees will support IT and communications technicians of the Australian police department to work on the R&D project concerning the combination of police technology and the software system in cars.
If everything happens as expected, the new Tesla car will become a Highway Patrol car with full functions. Along with the integrated technologies, it will be soon tested in many different locations in Victoria, a state of southeastern Australia.
According to Stephen Leane who now works as the Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner,
While being tested, the new vehicle will be under constant control. The trial is expected to be a prototype for the global police forces, especially for those who want to exploit the outstanding capabilities of Tesla vehicles such as superfast speed or silent operation.
As per the speed, the Tesla Model X can speed up from 0-100km/h in just 2.9 seconds. In other words, this vehicle must be the fastest car for police forces in Australia. Also, the police department in this state hasn’t yet revealed whether it would develop any tool or software for the super-big console screen of the Tesla car or not. However, they must be equipped with autonomous police vehicles in the upcoming time. Leane said,
Many countries including Australia are formed with urban areas that are far from each other. And therefore, one of the police’s daily missions is to monitor highways and special vehicles like the Tesla Model X will be the big support to meet the demands in their jobs. He added,
In addition, the new car also shows an impressive step in the police’s daily work. While the current emergency vehicles need charging a large number of fossil fuels to operate continuously, the Tesla car is famous for not emitting carbon.
