According to 7News, the incident happened in 2019. The victim, scientist Robert de Rose, is taking legal action against Apple, accusing the tech giant of not responding to his questions regarding the issue.

The accident occurred when De Rose was sitting inside his office when he suddenly felt pain in his leg and heard a weak popping sound coming from his trousers’ pocket.

Right after that, De Rose pulled the iPhone X out of his pocket. At that time, the device was more than a year old. He discovered that black smoke was coming from the phone.

Due to the exploding iPhone X, De Rose said he suffered a “second-degree burn” in his thigh. Ashes were all over the place and his skin was flaking, he recalled. De Rose claims that he has contacted Apple several times about the matter but never received a response.

At the moment, the Australian scientist is working with his lawyer to sue Apple for compensation. The law firm is also representing another man from Melbourne who claims that he burned his wrist after his Apple Watch overheated.

In its statement to 7News, an Apple spokesperson says that the company takes the safety of its customers very seriously and it is looking into the two complaints. The two lawsuits have been filed with the District Court.
