Artificial Intelligence Can Now Convert 2D Images Into Virtual 3D Images

A research team from the University of California, Los Angeles has come up with a technique using artificial intelligence to turn two-dimensional images into a virtual three-dimensional view. This will enable us to visualize activities inside organisms. Fluorescence microscopy will allow scientists to accurately tag parts of living cells as well as tissues with dyes under relevant lighting.
According to the scientists in a paper published on November 4, 2019, in Nature Methods, their framework, which is dubbed 'Deep-Z,' could fix aberrations or errors in images, when a sample is curved or tilted, for example. Additionally, they illustrated that the system was able to gain 2D images from one microscope type, virtually creating 3D images as if it obtained from a more advanced one.
It was also found that Deep-Z had the ability to generate 3D images from two-dimensional surfaces in which samples were curved or tilted, despite being only trained with 3D slices that were completely parallel to the sample's surface.
Meanwhile, when the world is inching towards successful research on Artificial Intelligence, shocking reports have come out for India. Reports say that there are 22,000 Ph.D. educated researchers in the AI field around the world, but just 386 of them are in India. Furthermore, only under 50 researchers are working in serious AI research in the country, most of whom are in institutes like IISc, IIITs, and IITs.
These findings were shared in the Global AI Talent Report 2018, then Niti Aayog further highlighted it in its discussion paper. The Indian government has planned a national center for Artificial Intelligence which will cater to sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, smart cities and infrastructure, and transportation. However, India is yet to set a benchmark in capturing the market of Artificial Intelligence. Though experts believe that India will be turning into a mega market for Artificial Intelligence by 2025. The government's approach towards technology should be fast paced.
