The ancient Egyptians never stop to amaze us with their construction and preservation techniques. Recently, Khaled al-Enani, the minister for Antiquities of Egypt, announced about a newly found tomb with seemingly newly-painted inscriptions. Experts determined that the burial chamber is over 4,000 years old but their colors do not seem to change much.
The person preserved in the tomb is believed to be Khuwy, an official and a nobleman living in the Fifth Dynasty. The unveiling event had the participation of 52 ambassadors from oversea countries and cultural attachés.

Khuwy’s tomb is part of a vast necropolis in the South of Cairo. Its structure shapes like a letter L and there is a small hall leading to the antechamber. One of the highlights of the burial chamber is the entrance tunnel, which is usually found in pyramids.
The well-preserved royalty hues of the tomb and its structure make archeologists believe that Khuwy was somehow related to Pharaoh Djedkare Isesi, whose pyramid is close by.

What archeologists have from unearthing the toms is its rendering, Khuwy’s canopic jars to store his organs, and his mummified body. With this discovery, the experts hope that they can gain an insight into the 40-year reign of Phraoh Djedkare Isesi.
Khuwy’s tomb is the latest in a series of findings made by the Ministry of Antiquities. Last year, they also found some well-preserved drawings and a mass cat cemetery along with rarely-seen mummified scarab beetles.
The Egyptian government hopes that these findings will help with boosting the tourism industry, which is devastated in 2011 as a result of political upheaval.
