2020 is likely to be an unforgettable yet gruesome year for the Americans while their country is having to cope with a lot of massive problems, including not only the COVID-19 epidemic but also a visible recession and social crisis.

For Americans, these words may be hard to get along with, but there’s another virus being caught recently in Northeastern states, which is described ‘more deadly’ than the COVID-19 that has caused a six-digit death toll in the country.
Dubbed as EEE, the ‘eastern equine encephalitis’ virus reportedly causes a severe brain infection. More seriously, it can be transmitted into human body through a mosquito bite, according to a recent study.
The virus was mostly found in horses, and researchers actually discovered a vaccine for these species. However, there’s no approved vaccine or specific treatment for human so far.

With that being said, here’s a piece of good news for us: we won’t catch the virus that easily. According to medical data provided by researchers, transmission and infection are extremely rare. Although the virus was first detected in humans in 1938, the number of patients in the US has been recorded with less than 100 cases.
For those bitten by mosquitoes that carry the EEE virus, 95% of them never end up with a severe infection. However, the virus poses a deadly threat to people once they get infected. In the meantime, scientists are worried about the rise of the EEE virus and other outbreaks due to prolonged summer periods and the growth of mosquito populations.
