Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Said That We Should Welcome Automation, Not Oppose It

What she wanted us to think about is a future when we have more time for science, art, education, because not all kind of creativity can support our livelihood.

Automation is a huge breakthrough for humankind but it also goes hand in hand with a large number of jobs being in jeopardy. The pro-automation argue that the matter has been overestimated while the other side points to a future when mass unemployment happens.

Sharing her thought on this matter, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the U.S. Representative for New York's 14th congressional district, said that we should not be fear of losing jobs because of automation, we should welcome that change, but the main reason why we were not was that when you did not have a job, you were in for a lot of troubles.

Her point here is that this might be a chance to liberate ourselves from our current system which associates most of us with the job we do.

What she wanted us to think about is a future when we have more time for science, art, education, because not all kind of creativity can support our livelihood.

Ocasio-Cortez took a point made by Bill Gates to support hers and she also elaborated that a little bit further. She said that what Gates meant was to tax the corporations but since it was easier, he said tax the robots.

Her argument gained the support of many writers who have shown their ability to predict the course of events before.

According to William Gibson, a novelist, this was a new take from a politician on a matter that has been done to death.

Have we asked the wrong questions?

No one can deny the huge impact of automation in the future. And with numerous study talking about this, we cannot turn a blind eye anymore. As we speak, the number of jobs lost has reached more than tens of millions while the number of new jobs is far behind.

So with what the congresswoman said, perhaps we should ask another kind of question.
