There are so many 5G-enabled devices available on the Indian smartphone market. And it seems like it won’t be long until Indians will be able to use the 5G network as Airtel has recently announced that it has successfully tested the 5G service in Hyderabad.
Using Non-Stand Along (NSA) network technology, Airtel tested 5G in 1800MHz band atop the already existing spectrum. According to Airtel, it has used modern dynamic spectrum to operate both 4G and 5G networks at the same time in the same spectrum block.
Airtel claims that its 5G service can deliver the speed and latency 10 times faster, the concurrency 100 times faster than existing technology. Using the 5G network, users can download a full-length movie in a matter of seconds. At the moment, the company is still waiting for government approvals and allocation of adequate spectrum to deploy its 5G services around the country.
Bharti Airtel’s MD and CEO, Gopal Vittal expressed his pride in the company’s engineers who had worked tirelessly to demonstrate and orchestrate the 5G network in Tech City, Hyderabad.
Airtel is the first operator in India to demonstrate this capability. However, while Airtel might seem to be ahead of this 5G race in the country, Reliance Jio is also preparing for a complete made-in-India 5G network solution. The company plans to unveil the service sometime this year.
