Flamethrower Drones Will Be Available For Purchase Soon

Throwflame TF-19 Wasp can work on commercial heavy-lift drones and strike a target located 7.62 meters away with a stream of fire

Four years ago, a teenager in Connecticut put forward a question regarding whether we should let robots have weapons when he equipped his drone with a flamethrower and later, a semiautomatic pistol.

We may never have a conclusive answer to that query, but this week, you will be able to create an airborne flamethrower yourself. That possibility comes in the form of a flamethrower attachment called Throwflame TF-19 Wasp. This extension can work on commercial heavy-lift drones and strike a target located 7.62 meters away. The tank with a maximum of one gallon of fuel allows the flamethrower to sustain a flow of fire in up to 100 seconds, as per the company.

The price of $1,499 (about Rs. 10,3293) is not too high, but you will need to have a drone first. As most of these pilotless aircraft are modular, chances are, you will need to put its parts together yourself. And please bear in mind that they do not come with flight controller out of the box.

The video below shows you a DJI S1000 drone with a TBS Tango R/C remote, an A2 flight controller, and 6S LiPo battery with a capacity of 16,000mAh . That many equipment requirements will set you back at least $2,600 (Rs. 17,9161). The company also has custom-made turnkey drones at a price ranging from Rs. 68,908 to over Rs. 689,083. The cost will depend on the speed you want it to fly, the distance you want the drone to cover, as well as the type of pictures you expect from it.

Most people will be puzzled when thinking of a practical application for that kind of drones, but in reality, there are plenty. For example, China once used flamethrower drone to clear power lines. Other purposes are destroying wasp nests and controlled burns.

The company said that the attachment would be available for purchase this week.
