Four towers of the Mina Plaza Towers were demolished in Abu Dhabi in only 10 seconds. The one looking over this incident is Modon, who help the towers become the tallest building to be demolished with explosives in the Guinness World Records, according to its Facebook page.
The tower that consisted of 144 floors was demolished with 6 tons of explosives. The demolition was conducted safely. The Mina Plaza Towers were taken down to make space for a tourist destination for the port area, according to Gulf News.
The successful demolition was announced on Twitter via the Abu Dhabi Media Office account, shortly after it happened.
The demolition was supported by the Abu Dhabi Police the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority, emergency response teams, the Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Center, and the National Ambulance in Abu Dhabi Emirate, the Twitter post revealed.
Modon CEO Bill Oregan said that the port area was closed from last Thursday evening to Friday afternoon to carry out a thorough post-blowndown inspection. He stated:
“This involves checking that all the explosives have detonated, that the structure has fallen exactly where planned, and that there is no debris outside the project boundaries. We will also check that all the dust has settled, and that there has been no impact on adjacent utilities.”
The towers were demolished with 18,000 detonators, all of which were programmed individually.
