You Can Now Overclock Redmi K30 Pro Display From 60Hz to 80Hz

Earlier this week, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi officially launched the flagship Redmi K30 Pro in China. This is considered an upgraded version of the standard K30, possesses more powerful specifications but retains an affordable price, similar to its predecessors.

However, right after the Redmi K30 Pro launched, there were many users who were disappointed to know that this phone was only equipped with a 60Hz screen, even lower than the standard model that has a 120Hz display.

However, it seems that this is not a big deal. According to the latest report, some programmers have figured out how to overclock the K30 Pro's screen to 80Hz, through a few software tweaks.

At the moment, overclocking your screen is probably not too new although it is not really as popular as overclocking the CPU. Earlier, XDA Developers also figured out how to overclock the screen of Xiaomi Mi 9 from 60Hz to 84Hz.

However, in order to do this, users are required to unlock the bootloader and flash an img file to the phone's dtbo partition. In other words, your smartphone’s warranty might be voided if you use unofficial software tweaks. In addition, overclocking will also significantly reduce the life of the display in the long-term.

According to Wang Teng Thomas - product manager of Xiaomi, the above unofficial tweaks require rooting, which will void the device's warranty. Therefore, he advises people not to try and should consider carefully before doing that.

There are many reasons why the Redmi does not use a high refresh rate on the K30 Pro. The company wants to provide users with the best display quality with AMOLED displays, but in order to get the device to have a longer battery life, they are required to use a 60Hz screen, instead of the same 120Hz refresh rate as the vanilla Redmi K30, because 120Hz display consumes significantly higher battery compared to the standard 60Hz one.
