Xiaomi Mi 9 Tipped To Pack Snapdragon 855, 12GB RAM, Triple Camera Setup

A new leak suggests that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 9 will come with a Snapdragon 855 SoC, 12GB of RAM, and a triple-camera setup.

Xiaomi is set to launch a new addition to its flagship Mi lineup, the Mi 9, in an event on 20 February. The said event is expected to be held in China, and it is interesting as Samsung also unveils its flagship Galaxy S10 series on 20 February as well. After the launch event, several reports have suggested that the phone maker will showcase the phone at the upcoming MWC along with several IoT (Internet of Things) smart connected devices. The phone has already been featured in a couple of leaks already, but the new one reveals more details about the specs of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 9.

According to a leak from SlashLeaks and also teaser tweets on Twitter by the Xiaomi’s official account, we can pretty much sum up the main specs of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 9. The new details and also previous leaks suggest that the handset will pack 7nm Snapdragon 855 chipset, coupled with 12GB of RAM. It is also said to have a 3D Face Recognition feature as well as an on-screen fingerprint sensor. The phone maker also confirms that the phone’s bottom chin will be 40 percent smaller compared to that of its predecessor, Xiaomi Mi 8. It is also certain that the handset will have support for fast charging standard as well.

On the camera department, there will be a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with an aperture of f/1.75 on the rear with pixel binning tech to capture 12MP photos in low-light conditions for better photo quality. The main rear camera will be coupled with a 16MP one with 117 degrees ultra-wide lens and an aperture of f/2.2. The third one on the rear camera setup will be a 12MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.2 and 2x optical zoom. On the front, it is expected to come with a 20MP selfie camera with all features that we have already seen in the AI-backed Beauty mode.

As per the reports, the Chinese phone maker also partners with the movie “Alita: Battle Angel” to promote its new phone. The phone is also tipped to support aptX as well as aptX-HD+ Bluetooth audio protocols to improve the sounding audio. NFC and an infrared sensor are included in its connectivity options.

On the design side, the phone is confirmed to sport a special edition under the name Xiaomi Mi 9 Explorer Edition which will come with a transparent back and quad rear camera system. The leak information also suggests that the fourth lens on the setup will most likely be coupled with a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor.

The pricing of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 9 models are also hinted by @I_Leak_VN and SlashLeaks. The regular Xiaomi Mi 9 is expected to be priced at CNY 3,499 (around Rs. 37,000), and the Explorer Edition is tipped to be offered at CNY 5,999 (around Rs. 63,400). In comparison, the Xiaomi Mi 8’s price is CNY 2,699 which is around Rs. 28,500.
