This Is What Happens When You Bend A Foldable Phone Beyond Its Breaking Point

JerryRigEverything is a YouTuber who has made a name for himself as a person who conducts all sort of phone torture. This time, he tried to break a phone meant to be bent, and we get to see what happens. He did not try to bend it to the way the manufacturer recommended but actually the other way around.

The subject of this test is Royale Flexpie, the first foldable phone in the world. Here is the whole video:

While most modern phones show scratches at level six and grooves at level seven, Flexpie’s plastic screen is damaged more easily. The decision to use plastic is understandable as no one has found a type of glass that can be bent. Corning is researching to find such material. Foldable phones that can be folded inward is more protected when users put them in their pockets.

There is nothing interesting in bending a foldable phone in the usual way, and when the YouTuber folded it the other way around, the phone withstood quite well. But when it could no longer fight back, it was the hinge that took damage rather than the screen, since the latter is designed to be bendable.

However, with the hinge out of the picture, the screen eventually broke because there was no rear support for it anymore. This test has proven that at least in this respect, foldable phone’s screen has the edge over those of regular models. While the screen can easily be scratched, users can be spared the worry that they may break it when they accidentally drop it.

At this point, Huawei and Samsung might want to hurry up.
