Samsung Will Be Reportedly Launching Two More Foldable Phones

Samsung is said to be working on two more foldable phones with different designs, including out-folding and clamshell-like designs.

Although the Royole Flexpai is the first foldable phone, the Huawei Mate X and the Samsung Galaxy Fold certainly brought the more polished and ergonomic foldable smartphones. And it seems that Samsung has been working on two more foldable phones.

According to an article on Bloomberg, the South Korean giant is on track of making two foldable phones with clamshell and out-folding designs.

The clamshell-like device is said to be able to fold from top to bottom, which is identical to the Samsung W lineup. However, it should have a continuous and long display instead of using a keypad on the phone’s lower half.

Meanwhile, the out-folding device folds away from users like the Huawei Mate X, which creates clearly difference over the Samsung Galaxy Fold. The latest foldable smartphone of Samsung folds inwards , and it has a standalone smartphone display on the outside when the phone is folded. On the second hand, the Huawei’s foldable phone uses a part of tablet panel as the phone display, which reduces the demand for separate smartphone screen in the first place.

According to the article on Bloomberg, the clamshell-like device will be unveiled at the end of 2019 or the beginning of next year. The handset is said to have an outside display, but Samsung can also remove it, which depends on the reaction of the market on the outside screen of the Galaxy Fold. The out-folding phone is tipped to already exist in the form of a prototype and is expected to release after the launch of the clamshell-like phone. Additionally, the device probably does not have an extra display, identical to the offerings of Huawei and Royole.

In addition, the post of Bloomberg also shows that the South Korean giant is likely to feature an on-screen fingerprint scanner for its foldable smartphones.

Samsung has continued to work on its foldable phone because the company stills want to make the durability of the phone display better. In particular, Samsung is claimed to try to eliminate a crease appearing on the display when folded approximately 10,000 times. It is reported that this giant is considering to replace the screen for free after the phone launch to make customers feel calm.

The Huawei Mate X and the Samsung Galaxy Fold are two leading foldable smartphones in the market. However, other manufacturers are also working on their own foldable phones. For instance, Xiaomi has released a video to show its foldable phone with a dual-folding appearance at the beginning of this year. The right and left sides of the handset fold backward from users, which leaves the middle section for a phone display. It seems too early to rate which foldable phone is the best, but the solution diversity is absolutely intriguing.
