OPPO Releases A Demo For Its First In-Screen Camera Phone

OPPO has released a mini demo to show how the brand achieved the full-view display design with on-screen camera module.

Chinese phone makers have embraced the innovation of full-view display for a few years. Both Vivo and OPPO applied this new design on their flagship devices such as Find X and Vivo NEX. However, these companies use a retractable pop-up selfie camera setup, which is necessary for a full-view display smartphone. However, OPPO has had another idea of where to put the selfie camera.

Recently, it showcased the first short demo of an in-screen camera on Twitter. The post came after various patents filed by many OEMs, including Samsung that is also on the track of developing this new feature. However, it turns out that OPPO was the first to show off a demo for it.

Accordingly, the demo displays a prototype phone inside a case with a curved display that is activated for the camera. In the demo, the user turns on the camera app, which has a blackened top portion as the pixels are switched off so that the camera can properly work. The user places a finger on an area where the camera is, and then the camera shows the finger of the user, which indicates that the camera is working. However, this is just a mini demo, so we cannot comment on the final images’ quality or other issues yet. But, when this innovative feature comes true, it will result in the disappearance of pop-up sensor that mainly propagated by Vivo and OPPO.

Speculation is rife that Samsung and OPPO are really close in developing their in-screen camera devices and OPPO’s phone with the new feature will be unveiled before late-2019. Regarding the model showed in the short demo, it is probably an OPPO Find X2 as it is this brand’s flagship lineup.

It is worth noting that Ice Universe, a famous tipster, has revealed that OPPO could not mass produce in-screen camera smartphones this year. He cited an official video clip as “just a demonstration of laboratory technology.”
