LG Granted A Patent For A New Flagship Phone With Hole Punch Display

South Korean phone maker LG has received a patient for its next flagship smartphone with hole-punch display alleged LG V60 ThinQ.

While other phone makers have taken advantage of pop-up or slider selfie shooter or hole-punch display, LG has still used notches with thinner bezels for its devices. However, that is probably changing soon since the company has registered a design patent for a smartphone with a hole-punch display.

Lgs Next Flagship Could Ditch The Notch In Favor O

As per LetsGoDigital site, LG Display received a patent for a pill-shaped hole-punch display in last November. The company filed a new patent with the KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office) in March 2019 for a device with this design of the display. The new patent was indeed granted in this year’s April. Also, the document has a photo of the smartphone’s camera application.

The device sports a notch like that of the S10 5G phone but put in the center instead of the right. Besides, there is one single camera housed in the hole and sandwiched between two sensors. It remains unknown what type of sensors the company would use here, but the LG G8 ThinQ which the brand unveiled earlier 2019 could provide some clues. It sports an 8MP selfie camera, paired with ToF sensor and an infrared sensor, which enables the facial recognition feature. The screen curves its corners and the phone’s bezels are thin and have a similar thickness.

The South Korean phone maker confirmed that it is expected to participate in IFA Berlin 2019 in which it should introduce at least a new smartphone. We are not sure whether the new smartphone with the hold-punch design will debut at this event or not. But if it launches, it is probably the LG V60 ThinQ.

As per the hints revealed in the video, LG will also introduce a dual-display phone at this event. They trademarked the “LG Folds” last month, so we believe that that is the device’s official name teased in the video.
