This week, we have finally had updates on the Galaxy Fold of Samsung with a launch date to count on. Soon after that, Huawei’s hands-on photos surfaced on the internet showing the new design of the company’s own foldable phone.

According to XDA-Developers, Li Wei, a Chinese journalist, happened to meet Richard Yu, the CEO of Huawei at the airport when he was using the Mate X. While conversed with Yu, Wei was able to take some pictures of the foldable phone. From these leaked images, we can see that there are some changes in the design.

The most notable difference is the carbon fiber look that we can spot around the hinge and the camera sensors. We do not know if it is the real carbon fiber or some material that looks just like it; however, given the price of the Mate X, it is probably the former.
On the rear, we can see the fourth camera sensor. The one Huawei introduced months ago only has three. The company’s official website also confirmed this addition saying that it was a ToF depth sensor. The button to open up the device has been changed too. Now it is larger and has a red accent.

That is the extent of what we can make out from the leaked photos. They do not show how the OLED display is like or whether the company has enhanced that part. For now, many people still have a concern over how durable the screen can be or if Huawei has found a way to minimize the risk of a crease forming over time.

Before this chance encounter that results in some hands-on photos, Huawei announced that it would delay the launch of the Mate X for further test. The phone is planned to be released at some point in September.
